Serpentis
Reversible 4mm Hoop Earrings
Across centuries and civilizations, the serpent has appeared as one of humanity’s oldest motifs…an emblem of wisdom, reverence, protection, and renewal. In the American Southwest, the rattlesnake holds particular resonance: a creature both feared and honored, whose patterned skin echoes the rhythms of the land itself. Ancient jewelry and early Southwestern adornments often borrowed from its geometry, weaving the diamond-shaped scales into talismans believed to guard the wearer and sharpen the senses.
Folium’s Serpentis Collection carries this legacy into a new era, transforming the serpent’s iconic pattern into a sculptural language of metal and light. Each jewel begins with the geometry of the serpent’s skin, the repeating diamond lattice that shifts in scale along its body, at once hypnotic and fiercely protective. Myles Ryan engraves these forms by hand, carving each scale with the same precision once given to vintage desert jewelry and ceremonial adornments.
Diamonds are set within the engraved cells like drops of light caught between scales, evoking the way sun flashes across a serpent’s coiled form. The pattern becomes rhythmic, architectural, and deeply tactile: a whisper of movement, even at rest. In bands, Serpentis becomes a continuous loop of protection, an undulating ring of scales that encircle the finger with a quiet strength.
In pendants, the motif elongates into a vertical talisman, offering a modern interpretation of an ancient guardian form. In earrings and one-of-a-kind pieces, the pattern transforms into more sculptural expressions, echoing the unpredictable grace of the serpent itself: curved, coiling, and ever alive.
Serpentis abstracts the serpent’s essence, distilling it into pure texture and geometry, an homage rather than a portrait. It is a reverent study of the rattlesnake as design, spirit, and symbol, rather than adornment alone. Together, the Serpentis jewels form a relic of an old-world motif. It is protective and rooted in the natural artistry of a creature whose patterning has captivated artisans for generations. These pieces honor the serpent as both muse and guardian, engraved forever in motion.

Frequently asked questions
Folium works exclusively with precious metals, specifically 18k yellow and white gold, as well as platinum, and carefully selected gemstones. Materials are chosen for their beauty, durability, and longevity, designed to age with grace over decades, not seasons.
Custom work is a pillar of Folium. We welcome personal symbols, engravings, and bespoke adaptations of our designs. Custom commissions are handled on a limited basis to ensure thoughtful collaboration and craftsmanship. Contact directly to discuss your vision.
Because each piece is made by hand, production times vary. In-stock designs typically ship within 2 weeks, and wholesale store orders in 4-6 weeks. Custom and engraved pieces require additional time, usually around 8-12 weeks. We believe patience is part of the value of the object.
Folium ships to the USA and Canada. Shipping times and duties vary by destination and are the responsibility of the recipient. All shipments are securely packaged and fully insured.
Folium jewelry is made to be worn, but we recommend removing pieces during heavy activity or chemical exposure. Over time, precious metals can develop a natural patina; many collectors consider this part of the piece’s story.
Due to the handcrafted and often personalized nature of our work, most pieces are final sale. If you have concerns about fit or details, we encourage reaching out before placing your order and we’re happy to guide you.
