At Folium, the commission process is treated not as a transaction, but as a collaboration rooted in trust, symbolism and artistry. It is a contemplative exchange between client and maker, in which the intimate contours of a life are gathered and transformed into precious metal.
To create a bespoke Folium piece is to engage in a ritual of translation. Memories become form. Meaning becomes line and curve. Each commission is shaped through Myles Ryanβs devotion to observation, and jewels become sculptural talismans. Myles draws upon hand engraving and a classical sculptural vocabulary. In his bespoke work, these traditions expand into a deeply personal language. Jewelry grows from the narratives entrusted to the artist, and are completed with intent.

Every commission begins with conversation. Myles invites clients to share the story they wish to honor: an important transition, a relationship, a memory, a personal philosophy. This exchange becomes the soil from which the piece will grow. Clients often find that, in speaking, their meaning begins to take shape. Myles listens for the symbols, motifs, and emotional textures that guide the design. This stage is unhurried, warm and collaborative.
From the consultation emerges a series of sketches. These drawings explore potential interpretations. Myles creates multiple variations, each one refining how story and structure can meet. Clients are invited to respond to these sketches, choosing the direction that resonates intuitively.
The selected sketch evolves into a formal study. Myles examines proportion, spatial rhythm, engraving pathways, stone placement, and the tactile qualities the final piece will embody. This is where the jewelβs architecture becomes clear. Botanical references, ancient motifs, or personal symbols are woven into the design. The piece begins to move from idea into dimensional reality, acquiring gravity and presence.
With the form established, Myles begins the meticulous, intimate work of bringing the piece to life. Every gesture is intentional: engraving that follows the grain of a leaf, subtle shifts in depth and sculptural shaping that invites light to travel across the surface. Stones, chosen for their symbolic resonance as much as their beauty, are set with the same precision. This stage is where craftsmanship merges with refinement, resulting in a timeless jewel.
Upon completion, the bespoke work is revealed with ceremony. The final piece arrives as a vessel of meaningβ¦ forged from story and artistry. It carries the imprint of the makerβs hand and the spirit of the one for whom it was created. Many clients describe this moment as unexpectedly emotional: a private proof that something personal has been honored and made tangible.
