Myles Ryan is an award-winning designer, master goldsmith, and CEO of Folium, a fine jewelry house rooted in symbolic storytelling and exceptional craftsmanship. Based in Northern California, he creates sculptural, hand-engraved jewels that unite ancient techniques with a refined aesthetic, crafting heirlooms made to empower and endure.
His path to the jewelerβs bench began with a gesture of mentorship. Introduced to metalsmithing by his godmother, Myles discovered early the poetry of metal in the handβ¦the way form emerges through pressure, patience and intuition. That quiet fascination became a lifelong pursuit. His training spans Eurythmy and the art of repoussΓ© in Switzerland, as well as formal studies at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), where he earned certifications as both gemologist and jeweler.Β At his atelier in Oakland, Myles designs on demand and sources rare stones, refining his technical precision and sharpened instinct for detail.
Our hand engraving is a deliberate, intimate process, each mark carved individually, without replication. The result is texture and depth that cannot be achieved by machine, giving every piece its own provocative character.
From these influences, a philosophy emerged: jewelry as lineage, craft as devotion, and form as an enduring language.
Folium is the evolution. Named for the Latin word βleaf,β it signals timelessness grounded in the natural world. Each collection: Florilegia, Quadrafolium, Serpentis, and Nectere, draws from architectural rhythm and the sculptural logic of living systems. These are not decorative references but structural ones, expressing how Myles observes the world as an unfolding study of growth and transformation.
In his hands, engraving becomes breath. Surface becomes story. Every piece begins as an observation, becomes a study, and ultimately emerges as a jewel meant to carry strength and meaning for its wearer. Myles conceives each work as an intimate vessel of personal legacy, honoring heritage and individuality.
His influences span early herbals and florilegia, classical architecture, myth, natural history, and ancient metalsmithing traditions. These threads weave into a visual language that feels both enduring and modern, archaic yet newly interpreted. There is a distinctive marriage of craftsmanship and lyricism. Folium speaks to a generation seeking jewels hand-shaped by time and rooted in legacy. Here, metal becomes meaning.
Folium believes that jewelry is continuity.
Rooted in the language of nature and shaped by human hands, each piece reflects the quiet intelligence of growth: how forms evolve and carry meaning over time. Like leaves pressed into books or petals preserved between pages, Folium captures moments that are fleeting and renders them permanent.
We draw inspiration from botanical structures, and the imperfect geometry of living systems. Our designs honor texture and movement. What emerges is jewelry that feels alive, organic and tactile.
Folium is guided by restraint as much as expression. In an age of overproduction and noise, we choose intention. Every material is selected for longevity, every form considered for how it will age, not just how it appears today. Our pieces are meant to be worn, lived with, and eventually inheritedβ¦objects that gather story rather than trend.
We believe craftsmanship is a dialogue between maker and material. Time, patience, and skill are celebrated. Marks of the hand are preserved. Growth rings remain visible.
Above all, Folium stands for connectionβ¦between past and present, body and earth, memory and meaning. Jewelry is a vessel, holding care and continuity. Nothing grows alone. Be rooted in legacy.
